Hip Hop, Dancehall and Soca Teacher
Shaakir Griffith, hailing from Belmont is an extraordinary dancer who specializes in Hip Hop and Dancehall, using his strong musical and martial arts background to enhance his skill set.
Shaakir was introduced to dance at the age of 18. A hidden passion was unlocked when he was invited to join a ballet class at the Caribbean School of Dance and an African class with the Belmont Freetown Folk Group. Soon he merged his classical and folk influence with his love for hip-hop, added his own twist and became one of the most sought after dancers in the country. In fact, Shaakir was called directly by Machel Montano to be one of his dancers in 2014, and he has since been a touring dancer with the band.
Shaakir has been in several television commercials and music videos. He has taught hip hop and dancehall at Holy Name Convent. Bishops Anstey, St. Bernadette’s Preparatory School, and the Hall of Justice just to name a few. He has also taught classes with the Xtreme Dance Academy and performed with the dance group Eclectik. Some of his credits/ choreography includes Shal Marshal, Nadia Batson, Iwer George, Devon Matthews, Patrice Roberts and Machel Montano.
